Aftercare Guide
HealedThank you for trusting me with your tattoo. It was an honor to create something meaningful with you.
Your tattoo is now a healing wound and a lovely piece of art. The way you care for it over the next few weeks plays an important role in how beautifully it heals.
Please take a few moments to read through these instructions before beginning your aftercare.
If you ever have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
🌿 If You Are Healing Without A Second Skin
For the first 2 to 3 days, allow your tattoo to dry heal.
During this time:
• Wash the tattoo gently twice a day with a fragrance-free antibacterial soap.
• Pat dry with a clean paper towel.
• Avoid applying lotion during these first few days unless we’ve discussed otherwise.
After those first few days:
Continue washing your tattoo twice daily for two weeks.
After each wash, apply a very thin layer of fragrance-free lotion.
Again… think hydration, not frosting a cupcake.
Less is more.
🌱 If You Are Healing With A Second Skin
Please leave your second skin bandage on for up to five days, provided it remains sealed and comfortable.
When it’s time to remove it:
• Remove the bandage slowly under warm running water.
• Wash the tattoo gently with a fragrance-free antibacterial soap.
• Pat dry with a clean paper towel. Please don’t rub.
• Apply a very thin layer of fragrance-free lotion.
After you’ve removed your second skin:
Continue washing your tattoo twice daily for two weeks.
After each wash, apply a very thin layer of fragrance-free lotion.
Please always remember, less is more.
🧴 Recommended Fragrance Free Lotions
• Lubriderm
• CeraVe
• Cetaphil
• Vanicream
Remember… your tattoo should never feel greasy or heavily moisturized. A little goes a very long way.
🛑 During Healing, Please Avoid
For the next few weeks, please avoid:
• Picking
• Scratching
• Peeling flakes
• Tight clothing over the tattoo
• Direct sun exposure
Soaking in:
• Swimming pools
• Hot tubs
• Lakes
• The ocean
• Bathtubs (Yes shower. No Bathtub.)
Your body knows how to heal beautifully. The best thing we can do is simply stay out of its way.
🌊 Soaking/Swimming
Please wait at least three weeks before swimming.
Four weeks is even better.
That includes:
• Pools
• Oceans
• Lakes
• Rivers
• Hot tubs
• Bathtub
When in doubt, wait a little longer.
Your tattoo will thank you.
😬 The Itchy Stage
At some point your tattoo will probably become wonderfully, gloriously itchy.
Please don’t scratch it.
Not even around it.
Trust me… once you start scratching nearby, your hand mysteriously begins wandering toward the tattoo itself.
Instead…
Take an ice cube and gently glide it over the tattoo.
It won’t magically erase the itch…
…but it does an amazing job convincing your brain that the sensation is cold instead of itchy.
It sounds silly.
It works.
🙏🏻 Healing Takes Time
Although your tattoo may look mostly healed after a few weeks, the deeper layers of your skin continue healing for approximately three months.
During this time, your tattoo may still feel slightly sensitive from time to time.
Be gentle with it.
Be patient with your body.
Healing isn’t a race.
🖤 A Final Note
Your tattoo is more than just ink. It’s a story. It’s a promise to you, from you.
Thank you for allowing me to create it with you.
Please care for it with the same love and intention that we put into making it.
And if you ever have a question during the healing process, don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m always happy to help.
With love,
Anya Karuna 🖤
